The FishIQ Blog

Honest progress updates from a UK-built fishing app, what we've added, what we've changed, and the thinking behind it.

Take the tour, and grab early access on Android

You can now see exactly what FishIQ looks like before you download it.

We've added a full How It Works page, a screen-by-screen walkthrough of the app, from your daily FishIQ Score to the map, analytics, Hall of Fame and your fishing journal. A short walkthrough video is coming soon to go with it.

We've also opened up free early access on Android. Every feature is unlocked, nothing is behind a paywall, and we'd genuinely love your feedback. iPhone user? Leave your email on the home page and we'll let you know the moment iOS lands.

The soul of fishing: your Fishing Journal

Fishing has never really been about the fish.

It's the quiet mornings, the mist on the water, the heron on the far bank, the day spent away from screens. So we built a place to keep all of that, not just your catches. The new Fishing Journal lets you record the trip itself: a photo of the moment, how it felt, where you were, and the wildlife you saw. A private, beautiful record of every session, blanks and all.

Because your journal and your private spots are personal, we also added an optional fingerprint / Face unlock. Turn it on and FishIQ asks for your fingerprint each time you open it, your device PIN works as a fallback, so you're never locked out.

We rounded the update off with a few refinements anglers asked for: a bigger, bolder button for logging a catch, and a map that now opens at a wider view of your area so you can see what's around you.

Right fish, right now: a smarter FishIQ Score

A morning tip at 7pm is no use to anyone.

Our daily FishIQ Score already reads your own catch history against today's live conditions to suggest what to target and when. But the timing advice didn't know what time it actually was, so it could recommend a dawn window long after dawn had passed.

Now the recommendation is time-aware. If a productive window is happening right now, it says so. If the prime window has passed but there's still a good one ahead today, it points you there. And if the day's done, it sets you up for tomorrow. Same intelligence, far more useful in the moment.

Snap, identify, log, even with no signal

Logging a catch should take seconds, wherever you are.

This update brought three big things together. First, AI fish identification: add a photo and FishIQ recognises the species and fills in your catch for you. For privacy, a photo only ever becomes shareable once it's confirmed as a fish.

Second, offline-first logging. Most of the best fishing spots have the worst phone signal, so catches now save on your phone and sync automatically when you're back in range, GPS and conditions captured at the bank, no signal required.

We also added the ability to edit a catch later, an angler profile with avatar, and Venue Insights: location intelligence that shows what's working at a water, while keeping every exact catch spot private to you.

Why we let you log a blank

Knowing where not to go is just as valuable as knowing where to.

Most apps only let you record success. But every angler knows a blank session still teaches you something, the wrong water, the wrong conditions, the wrong day. So FishIQ lets you log a blank: a no-catch trip with the date, place and conditions, but no fish.

Blanks are kept out of your catch stats so they never skew your numbers, but they power a new success rate: for you and for each venue, so over time you learn which waters and conditions actually produce. We also taught the app which species belong in which waters, so the data stays realistic.

Hello, FishIQ: what we're building and why

FishIQ is a fishing-intelligence app, built in the UK, designed to help you catch more and enjoy it more.

The idea is simple: every catch you log is a data point, and millions of real catches together reveal patterns no single angler could ever see, what's biting, where, and in what conditions. The more anglers log, the smarter it gets for everyone.

From day one we laid the foundations: catch logging with automatic weather and conditions, analytics, a map, a community layer, a personalised FishIQ Score, and secure sign-in. And one rule sits above all of it, your exact spots are always private to you. We share knowledge, not swims.

This blog is where we'll share the journey as we build it in the open. Thanks for being early. Tight lines. 🎣
